What is your reaction to the Cyberbullying videos that you viewed this week? What is the teacher’s role in preventing/eliminating Cyberbullying?
The cyberbullying videos that i viewed on the websites you provided for us actually really touched me. Even though i know it happens everyday. Sometimes you to not realize how hurtful it can be to those it is happening to and their families . I also really liked the video "Cyberbullying: You Can't Take It Back" where a teen that participated in the act of rating his fellow classmates feels the regret of his actions. And shows the remorse he feels for doing something so degrading. At first i didn't understand how this was a form of cyberbullying but after watching the entire video and the other videos as well i began to understand more about cyberbullying. How this "use" of the internet is used to harass and bully people and how damaging it can be to the victims being harassed or bullied but to those involved in the acts as well.
I think the teacher's role in preventing/eliminating cyberbullying is to first instill an atmosphere of respect. Respect your other classmates, speak nicely, and be kind to one another. Because after watching these videos i can see that the people that cyberbully don't respect the victim, they don honor their privacy, and in the case of the "rating "story dont respect others differences. There are many reasons why people bully. Some because they have been bullied themselves and are trying to retaliate, some have serious problems- personality and medically related, some do just to be popular. But no matter what these reasons are no one should ever put someone else in this predicament or situation and i think teachers instilling that main theme of respect can have a major impact on how the kids see their classmates and act towards their classmates. When a teacher hears one kid putting another kid down or a group of kids putting one kid down, she should dtep in immediately and show them that behavior like that will not be tolerated or accepted EVER.Let them know that it is cruel to tease others and to hurt others physically and through the internet. Bullying through the internet can hurt someone emotionally just as much as a someone beating someone up physically. Let them know if they are being cyberbullied or know someone who is to not be ashamed to tell their parents or teachers. And also if they are old enough to have emails to delete emails that are weird or make them feel uncomfortable and that also goes for chat rooms.
Some grammatical issues with your post. I like how you talked about the teacher immediately stepping into situations where bullying is happening in the classroom. I agree that bullying in the classroom should never be tolerated or accepted. Good points!
